The partnership draws on the Hospital’s considerable experience in clinical research and the specialised capabilities of Athens LifeTech Park in the life sciences. It creates a common framework for carrying out new research projects and attracting them to Greece.

Particular emphasis is placed on bioequivalence and clinical studies, as well as on supporting the early development of new pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical products. The aim is to link clinical practice more closely with biotechnology and bioanalytical expertise, while strengthening Greece’s role on the map of international clinical and biomedical research.

Papageorgiou General Hospital has significant experience in clinical research and strong ties with the academic and research community, including through its collaboration with the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The Hospital’s Clinical Research Unit has a central role in the new partnership. The Unit is active in Phase I studies and in bioequivalence and therapeutic equivalence studies.

For its part, Athens LifeTech Park, the first biotechnology park in Greece, offers modern laboratory infrastructure and specialised life sciences expertise. It supports a wide range of R&D activities, from bioanalysis and pharmacokinetics to early clinical development.

The partnership between the two organisations creates an integrated framework that connects laboratory and biotechnology research with clinical practice. Combining the Hospital’s clinical experience with Athens LifeTech Park’s bioanalytical, pharmacokinetic and research expertise can strengthen the delivery of studies to high scientific and quality standards. It can also help attract new research and clinical projects to Greece.

Michalis Karaviotis, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Papageorgiou General Hospital, stated: “The partnership with Athens LifeTech Park significantly strengthens the Hospital’s capabilities in clinical research, with an emphasis on bioequivalence and clinical studies. By combining the clinical experience and scientific knowledge of our people with ALTP’s expertise and capabilities, we are creating the conditions for more studies and new collaborations in Greece and abroad. Our goal is to strengthen the Clinical Research Unit and Papageorgiou’s research role, contributing to the generation of new knowledge and the development of better treatment options for patients.”

Eleni Pentafragka, CEO of Athens LifeTech Park, commented: “With the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation with Papageorgiou General Hospital, our goal is to strengthen clinical research and contribute to faster drug development, with the patient at the centre of everything we do. Innovation is our vehicle, but partnerships are at the heart of what we are building in Spata. We believe that real progress comes when the knowledge, experience and capabilities of different organisations come together around a shared goal. Today’s agreement expresses that conviction and opens up new prospects for research in Greece.”
